A Bit About Us
JAN Ltd is a family-run business with a proud history of providing high-quality care since 1989. Mandy and Jeff Nicholson founded the company with the opening of Inglenook House, later expanding to include Clearview in 1999 and Laburnum Lodge in 2016.
Today, Mandy, Lauren, and Joe (Lauren’s husband) continue to play key roles in JAN Ltd, ensuring the business remains versatile, proactive, and committed to delivering the highest standard of care for our service users.
The Team

All of our support workers are carefully selected and undergo a fully enhanced DBS check before joining us. We value experience, personal warmth, patience, and a caring attitude—ensuring our team provides competent, compassionate, and respectful care for our service users.
Our staff receive comprehensive training in safeguarding, first aid, moving and handling, medication management, epilepsy awareness, communication, and more. This ensures we deliver the right care, right culture, and right support—helping to create a bespoke service that empowers our service users to achieve their dreams and aspirations.
Amanda Nicholson -

About Amanda
Amanda left school at 16 and pursued a pre-residential care course at Plymouth City College. After completing her studies, she began working as a care assistant at the Beckly Unit at Scott Hospital, where she remained until the age of 18.
She then trained to become a State Enrolled Nurse at Star Cross and Langdon Hospitals in Exeter. Upon returning to Plymouth, Amanda worked at The Gables in Plympton as an Enrolled Nurse before moving to Cumberland House in the same role.
At 28, Amanda and her husband opened their first Learning Disability Home Inglenook House in 1989 while she simultaneously completed her State Registered Nurse qualification.
Since then, they have expanded their care services, by opening Clearview in 1999, and Laburnum Lodge in 2016.
Outside of work, Amanda enjoys spending time with her family and has a passion for flower arranging.
Allison Nichols -
Registered Manager
About Allison
Allison joined JAN Ltd in February 2018 and brings an impressive 40 years + of experience within Health and Social Care.
She holds a Level 5 Leadership and Management qualification, as well as a Level 5 Leadership qualification in St Luke’s End of Life Care. Allison is also a qualified teacher, trainer, and assessor within Health and Social Care, and is an affiliated member of the Association of Healthcare Trainers.
Throughout her extensive career, Allison has worked with a wide variety of client groups, gaining a wealth of knowledge and expertise. She now serves as the Registered Manager for all three of our homes, providing strong leadership and guidance across the organisation.
When she isn’t working, Allison enjoys spending time with her three grandchildren, who keep her just as busy as we do at JAN Ltd.
Lauren Turner-
Nominated Individual
About Lauren
Lauren’s passion for the care sector began at a very young age and has grown into a 11‑year career in the industry so far.
She works closely with Allison and has recently been appointed as the Nominated Individual for JAN Ltd. In this role, Lauren oversees all regulated activity, ensuring the service is well‑run, safe, and fully compliant with regulations and standards. In April 2025, Lauren completed her training and became a St Luke’s Six Steps verified End of Life Champion.
When she isn’t working, Lauren enjoys spending time with her family, her daughter, and her newborn baby boy, as well as caring for their three horses.

About Stephanie
Steph joined JAN Ltd in November 2018 as a Support Worker, with no prior experience in the role. It was a completely new challenge, but one she was excited to take on. Very quickly, it became clear that Steph had a natural passion for care work and a strong understanding of her responsibilities.
After successfully completing her probation and the Care Certificate, Steph was promoted to Senior Support Worker. In 2020, she achieved her Level 3 Health and Social Care qualification. She then went on to become a verified St Luke’s Six Steps End of Life Champion, further demonstrating her commitment to professional development.
In 2023, Steph was promoted again to House Manager of Inglenook House, where she continues to thrive. She has recently completed her Level 4 Health and Social Care qualification.
In August 2026, Steph expanded her responsibilities further by taking on a more office‑based role and becoming the House Manager for Laburnum Lodge as well.
Outside of work, Steph enjoys spending time with her family and her granddaughter.
Donna Avery- House Manager of Clearview
About Donna
Donna joined JAN Ltd in 2018 as a Night Support Worker, bringing with her many years of experience working alongside Allison in previous roles. After moving onto day shifts, Donna continued to grow within the organisation, working her way up to Senior Support Worker through dedication, hard work, and a genuine passion for care.
In 2022, Donna progressed again and became the House Manager of Clearview, where she leads her team with confidence, compassion, and a strong commitment to high‑quality care. She has completed both her Level 3 and Level 4 Health and Social Care qualifications and has worked within the care sector for over 20 years.
When Donna isn’t working, she enjoys spending time with her children and has a real passion for dogs.
Joe Turner -
Head of Maintenance
About Joe
Joe joined the JAN Ltd team in 2020. After spending 15 years working in the hospitality industry, he decided it was time for a change — and we’re very glad he did.
Joe can turn his hand to anything and has been a brilliant asset to JAN Ltd. He ensures all equipment is properly maintained, keeps all three properties decorated, and makes sure everything is in good working order to support the daily running of the service.
Recently, Joe has also taken on a bank role, working alongside the support team on the floor to assist service users directly. He has completed his Care Certificate, further strengthening his skills and contribution to the organisation.
When Joe isn’t working, he enjoys running, going to the gym, and spending time with his family — Lauren and their children.
